Chemistry is the 44th most popular major in the country with 21,951 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, chemistry graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $38,704 and had an average of $22,279 in loans still to pay off.

Across the New England region, there were 1,316 chemistry graduates with average earnings and debt of $43,920 and $23,758 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 897 chemistry graduates with average earnings and debt of $41,041 and $24,492 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value Chemistry Schools for a Bachelor’s in the New England Region” ranking looked at 29 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in chemistry. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent chemistry programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
