Will you go to QCC for free thanks to the G.I. Bill®? Coverage is not unlimited and varies school to school, so the fine print is worth checking.
The table below compares the guaranteed Post-9/11 tuition benefit to the cost of attending QCC. See the living-expense and book sections below for those benefits.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Veteran tuition & fees | $5,210 |
| Guaranteed Post-9/11 tuition benefit | $5,210 |
| Tuition out of pocket | $0 |
The Post-9/11 GI Bill® tuition benefit is enough to cover the full tuition and fees at QCC.
There is no record that QCC participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program in the latest federal data. If you need benefits beyond the Post-9/11 cap, ask the schools veteran services office whether any programs participate.
Active-duty service members using DoD Tuition Assistance are capped at $250 per credit hour. The chart below shows whether the per-credit charge at QCC falls under that cap.
| Residency | Per-credit charge | Below $250 cap? |
|---|---|---|
| In-state | $212 | |
| Out-of-state | $212 |
The Post-9/11 GI Bill® also covers housing through a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA). Here is how that benefit compares to the estimated cost of living at QCC.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Estimated living expenses (room & board, academic year) | $21,788 |
| Post-9/11 monthly housing allowance (MHA) | $5,196/mo |
| Housing benefit (academic year, ~8 months) | $41,568 |
| Estimated surplus in your pocket | $19,780 |
For most full-time students the housing allowance covers the cost of living off campus, with money left over. The MHA is based on the school’s ZIP code and is paid at the full-time rate for resident students.
With a Post-9/11 book stipend of up to $1,000 per year, the estimated $1,500 in supply costs at QCC, leaving about $500 out of pocket.
This is the real volume of GI Bill® and military tuition benefits paid out at QCC.
Roughly 85 Post-9/11 recipients used tuition benefits worth $281,920.
| Benefit | Recipients | Total disbursed | Average / recipient |
|---|---|---|---|
| GI Bill® (all students) | 81 | $256,956 | $3,172 |
| GI Bill® — undergraduate | 81 | $256,956 | — |
| DoD Tuition Assistance (all) | 6 | $17,330 | $2,888 |
| DoD TA — undergraduate | 6 | $17,330 | — |
GI Bill® benefits follow the veteran; DoD Tuition Assistance is an active-duty benefit paid while serving.
