Wondering what the G.I. Bill® actually covers at IHCC? Coverage is not unlimited and varies school to school, so the fine print is worth checking.
The table below compares the guaranteed Post-9/11 tuition benefit to the cost of attending IHCC. See the living-expense and book sections below for those benefits.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Veteran tuition & fees | $6,007 |
| Guaranteed Post-9/11 tuition benefit | $6,007 |
| Tuition out of pocket | $0 |
At public institutions the Post-9/11 GI Bill® pays in-state tuition and fees in full, meaning most eligible veterans pay no tuition at IHCC.
IHCC is not listed as a Yellow Ribbon participant in current federal reporting. Check directly with the school, since participation can change year to year.
Active-duty service members using DoD Tuition Assistance are capped at $250 per credit hour. The chart below shows whether the per-credit charge at IHCC falls under that cap.
| Residency | Per-credit charge | Below $250 cap? |
|---|---|---|
| In-state | $24 | |
| Out-of-state | $24 |
On top of tuition, the Post-9/11 GI Bill® provides a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) for the months you are in school. Here is how that benefit compares to the estimated cost of living at IHCC.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Estimated living expenses (room & board, academic year) | $6,984 |
| Post-9/11 monthly housing allowance (MHA) | $2,499/mo |
| Housing benefit (academic year, ~8 months) | $19,992 |
| Estimated surplus in your pocket | $13,008 |
The benefit generally more than covers off-campus living costs here. MHA amounts reflect the local housing rate for the school’s area.
Eligible veterans receive up to $1,000 a year for books and supplies; IHCC estimates these costs at about $1,200, leaving about $200 out of pocket.
This is the real volume of GI Bill® and military tuition benefits paid out at IHCC.
Approximately 41 students drew Post-9/11 GI Bill® tuition benefits totaling $128,355.
| Benefit | Recipients | Total disbursed | Average / recipient |
|---|---|---|---|
| GI Bill® (all students) | 44 | $131,603 | $2,991 |
| GI Bill® — undergraduate | 44 | $131,603 | — |
| DoD Tuition Assistance (all) | 0 | $0 | — |
| DoD TA — undergraduate | 0 | $0 | — |
GI Bill® dollars are paid on the veterans behalf, while DoD Tuition Assistance supports active-duty service members.
