Wondering what the G.I. Bill® actually covers at Med Academy? Coverage is not unlimited and varies school to school, so the fine print is worth checking.
Below is the gap between the Post-9/11 tuition benefit and the cost at Med Academy. Housing and book benefits are covered separately below.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Veteran tuition & fees | $22,330 |
| Guaranteed Post-9/11 tuition benefit | $20,235 |
| Tuition out of pocket | $2,095 |
The Post-9/11 GI Bill® caps the annual tuition benefit (about $20,235), so the tuition above that is a gap veterans must cover through Yellow Ribbon, savings, or other aid at Med Academy.
Federal data does not indicate that Med Academy currently participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program. If you need benefits beyond the Post-9/11 cap, ask the schools veteran services office whether any programs participate.
On top of tuition, the Post-9/11 GI Bill® provides a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) for the months you are in school. The table compares the housing benefit to estimated living expenses at Med Academy.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Estimated living expenses (room & board, academic year) | $17,842 |
| Post-9/11 monthly housing allowance (MHA) | $3,612/mo |
| Housing benefit (academic year, ~8 months) | $28,896 |
| Estimated surplus in your pocket | $11,054 |
The benefit generally more than covers off-campus living costs here. MHA amounts reflect the local housing rate for the school’s area.
Eligible veterans receive up to $1,000 a year for books and supplies; Med Academy estimates these costs at about $1,000, so the stipend covers them in full.
This is the real volume of GI Bill® and military tuition benefits paid out at Med Academy.
Roughly 8 Post-9/11 recipients used tuition benefits worth $106,753.
| Benefit | Recipients | Total disbursed | Average / recipient |
|---|---|---|---|
| GI Bill® (all students) | 8 | $70,922 | $8,865 |
| GI Bill® — undergraduate | 8 | $70,922 | — |
| DoD Tuition Assistance (all) | 0 | $0 | — |
| DoD TA — undergraduate | 0 | $0 | — |
GI Bill® dollars are paid on the veterans behalf, while DoD Tuition Assistance supports active-duty service members.
