Will you go to NCMC for free thanks to the G.I. Bill®? The answer depends on the school — benefits are capped and the details vary, so it pays to do your research.
Below is the gap between the Post-9/11 tuition benefit and the cost at NCMC. Housing and book benefits are covered separately below.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Veteran tuition & fees | $7,050 |
| Guaranteed Post-9/11 tuition benefit | $7,050 |
| Tuition out of pocket | $0 |
Because tuition is at or below the annual Post-9/11 benefit, the GI Bill® covers it in full at NCMC.
NCMC is not listed as a Yellow Ribbon participant in current federal reporting. Check directly with the school, since participation can change year to year.
Active-duty service members using DoD Tuition Assistance are capped at $250 per credit hour. The chart below shows whether the per-credit charge at NCMC falls under that cap.
| Residency | Per-credit charge | Below $250 cap? |
|---|---|---|
| In-state | $74 | |
| Out-of-state | $74 |
Beyond tuition, the Post-9/11 GI Bill® pays a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) while you are enrolled. The table compares the housing benefit to estimated living expenses at NCMC.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Estimated living expenses (room & board, academic year) | $10,368 |
| Post-9/11 monthly housing allowance (MHA) | $1,431/mo |
| Housing benefit (academic year, ~8 months) | $11,448 |
| Estimated surplus in your pocket | $1,080 |
The benefit generally more than covers off-campus living costs here. The MHA is based on the school’s ZIP code and is paid at the full-time rate for resident students.
Eligible veterans receive up to $1,000 a year for books and supplies; NCMC estimates these costs at about $794, so the stipend covers them in full.
This is the real volume of GI Bill® and military tuition benefits paid out at NCMC.
Approximately 10 Post-9/11 recipients used tuition benefits worth $24,780.
| Benefit | Recipients | Total disbursed | Average / recipient |
|---|---|---|---|
| GI Bill® (all students) | 9 | $41,718 | $4,635 |
| GI Bill® — undergraduate | 9 | $41,718 | — |
| DoD Tuition Assistance (all) | 3 | $12,715 | $4,238 |
| DoD TA — undergraduate | 3 | $12,715 | — |
GI Bill® benefits follow the veteran; DoD Tuition Assistance is an active-duty benefit paid while serving.
