How much of the cost at NCTC will the G.I. Bill® cover? Coverage is not unlimited and varies school to school, so the fine print is worth checking.
Below is the gap between the Post-9/11 tuition benefit and the cost at NCTC. See the living-expense and book sections below for those benefits.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Veteran tuition & fees | $4,680 |
| Guaranteed Post-9/11 tuition benefit | $4,680 |
| Tuition out of pocket | $0 |
Public-college veterans generally have their entire in-state tuition paid by the Post-9/11 GI Bill® at NCTC.
NCTC is not listed as a Yellow Ribbon participant in current federal reporting. Check directly with the school, since participation can change year to year.
For active-duty students, Tuition Assistance covers up to $250 per credit hour — the indicators below show whether NCTC is below that cap.
| Residency | Per-credit charge | Below $250 cap? |
|---|---|---|
| In-state | $155 | |
| Out-of-state | $182 |
On top of tuition, the Post-9/11 GI Bill® provides a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) for the months you are in school. The table compares the housing benefit to estimated living expenses at NCTC.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Estimated living expenses (room & board, academic year) | $5,994 |
| Post-9/11 monthly housing allowance (MHA) | $1,770/mo |
| Housing benefit (academic year, ~8 months) | $14,160 |
| Estimated surplus in your pocket | $8,166 |
The benefit generally more than covers off-campus living costs here. Your actual MHA depends on your rate of pursuit and the school’s location.
The Post-9/11 GI Bill® pays a books-and-supplies stipend of up to $1,000 per year. Estimated book and supply costs at NCTC run about $1,680, leaving about $680 out of pocket.
This is the real volume of GI Bill® and military tuition benefits paid out at NCTC.
Roughly 156 Post-9/11 recipients used tuition benefits worth $364,983.
| Benefit | Recipients | Total disbursed | Average / recipient |
|---|---|---|---|
| GI Bill® (all students) | 168 | $491,242 | $2,924 |
| GI Bill® — undergraduate | 168 | $491,242 | — |
| DoD Tuition Assistance (all) | 4 | $5,405 | $1,351 |
| DoD TA — undergraduate | 4 | $5,405 | — |
GI Bill® benefits follow the veteran; DoD Tuition Assistance is an active-duty benefit paid while serving.
