Wondering what the G.I. Bill® actually covers at NTCC? Coverage is not unlimited and varies school to school, so the fine print is worth checking.
Below is the gap between the Post-9/11 tuition benefit and the cost at NTCC. Housing and book benefits are covered separately below.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Veteran tuition & fees | $4,282 |
| Guaranteed Post-9/11 tuition benefit | $4,282 |
| Tuition out of pocket | $0 |
At public institutions the Post-9/11 GI Bill® pays in-state tuition and fees in full, meaning most eligible veterans pay no tuition at NTCC.
NTCC is not listed as a Yellow Ribbon participant in current federal reporting. Check directly with the school, since participation can change year to year.
Active-duty service members using DoD Tuition Assistance are capped at $250 per credit hour. The chart below shows whether the per-credit charge at NTCC falls under that cap.
| Residency | Per-credit charge | Below $250 cap? |
|---|---|---|
| In-state | $1,176 | |
| Out-of-state | $1,176 |
Beyond tuition, the Post-9/11 GI Bill® pays a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) while you are enrolled. The table compares the housing benefit to estimated living expenses at NTCC.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Estimated living expenses (room & board, academic year) | $6,813 |
| Post-9/11 monthly housing allowance (MHA) | $1,464/mo |
| Housing benefit (academic year, ~8 months) | $11,712 |
| Estimated surplus in your pocket | $4,899 |
For most full-time students the housing allowance covers the cost of living off campus, with money left over. The MHA is based on the school’s ZIP code and is paid at the full-time rate for resident students.
Eligible veterans receive up to $1,000 a year for books and supplies; NTCC estimates these costs at about $1,500, leaving about $500 out of pocket.
These figures show the GI Bill® and DoD Tuition Assistance dollars veterans and service members actually used at NTCC.
Roughly 38 veterans received Post-9/11 GI Bill® tuition payments of $87,176.
| Benefit | Recipients | Total disbursed | Average / recipient |
|---|---|---|---|
| GI Bill® (all students) | 33 | $79,455 | $2,408 |
| GI Bill® — undergraduate | 33 | $79,455 | — |
GI Bill® dollars are paid on the veterans behalf, while DoD Tuition Assistance supports active-duty service members.
