How much of the cost at PIA will the G.I. Bill® cover? Coverage is not unlimited and varies school to school, so the fine print is worth checking.
Below is the gap between the Post-9/11 tuition benefit and the cost at PIA. Housing and book benefits are covered separately below.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Veteran tuition & fees | $17,725 |
| Guaranteed Post-9/11 tuition benefit | $17,725 |
| Tuition out of pocket | $0 |
Because tuition is at or below the annual Post-9/11 benefit, the GI Bill® covers it in full at PIA.
PIA is not listed as a Yellow Ribbon participant in current federal reporting. Contact the veteran services office to confirm whether any programs offer Yellow Ribbon matching.
Beyond tuition, the Post-9/11 GI Bill® pays a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) while you are enrolled. Below, the academic-year housing benefit is set against the estimated living costs at PIA.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Estimated living expenses (room & board, academic year) | $11,992 |
| Post-9/11 monthly housing allowance (MHA) | $2,307/mo |
| Housing benefit (academic year, ~8 months) | $18,456 |
| Estimated surplus in your pocket | $6,464 |
The benefit generally more than covers off-campus living costs here. The MHA is based on the school’s ZIP code and is paid at the full-time rate for resident students.
Eligible veterans receive up to $1,000 a year for books and supplies; PIA estimates these costs at about $1,009, leaving about $9 out of pocket.
These figures show the GI Bill® and DoD Tuition Assistance dollars veterans and service members actually used at PIA.
In the latest reporting year, about 39 veterans received Post-9/11 GI Bill® tuition payments of $536,942.
| Benefit | Recipients | Total disbursed | Average / recipient |
|---|---|---|---|
| GI Bill® (all students) | 41 | $672,396 | $16,400 |
| GI Bill® — undergraduate | 41 | $672,396 | — |
GI Bill® dollars are paid on the veterans behalf, while DoD Tuition Assistance supports active-duty service members.
