Will you go to Trinity U for free thanks to the G.I. Bill®? Coverage is not unlimited and varies school to school, so the fine print is worth checking.
The table below compares the guaranteed Post-9/11 tuition benefit to the cost of attending Trinity U. Housing and book benefits are covered separately below.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Veteran tuition & fees | $51,352 |
| Guaranteed Post-9/11 tuition benefit | $20,235 |
| Tuition out of pocket | $31,117 |
The Post-9/11 GI Bill® limits the annual tuition benefit to roughly $20,235, so tuition beyond that is out of pocket (or covered by Yellow Ribbon) at Trinity U.
Trinity University is a Yellow Ribbon school: the institution and the VA jointly fund tuition that exceeds the GI Bill® cap. Roughly 17 students used Yellow Ribbon benefits here in the latest reporting year.
Available Yellow Ribbon seats and maximum contributions differ by program and degree level — check with the veteran services office for current limits.
For active-duty students, Tuition Assistance covers up to $250 per credit hour — the indicators below show whether Trinity U is below that cap.
| Residency | Per-credit charge | Below $250 cap? |
|---|---|---|
| In-state | $13 | |
| Out-of-state | $13 |
On top of tuition, the Post-9/11 GI Bill® provides a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) for the months you are in school. Below, the academic-year housing benefit is set against the estimated living costs at Trinity U.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Estimated living expenses (room & board, academic year) | $14,472 |
| Post-9/11 monthly housing allowance (MHA) | $2,058/mo |
| Housing benefit (academic year, ~8 months) | $16,464 |
| Estimated surplus in your pocket | $1,992 |
The benefit generally more than covers off-campus living costs here. The MHA is based on the school’s ZIP code and is paid at the full-time rate for resident students.
Eligible veterans receive up to $1,000 a year for books and supplies; Trinity U estimates these costs at about $1,000, so the stipend covers them in full.
Beyond the coverage math above, this is how much veteran education-benefit money actually flows to Trinity U.
Roughly 44 veterans received Post-9/11 GI Bill® tuition payments of $1,055,245.
| Benefit | Recipients | Total disbursed | Average / recipient |
|---|---|---|---|
| GI Bill® (all students) | 34 | $867,252 | $25,507 |
| GI Bill® — undergraduate | 31 | $797,918 | — |
| GI Bill® — graduate | 3 | $69,334 | — |
GI Bill® benefits follow the veteran; DoD Tuition Assistance is an active-duty benefit paid while serving.
