In 2020-2021, 1,156 people earned their degree in bioinformatics, making the major the 397th most popular in the United States.

For this year’s “Best Value Bioinformatics Schools in the Great Lakes Region” ranking, we looked at 11 colleges that offer a degree in bioinformatics. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent bioinformatics programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the bioinformatics program at the school and the cost to attend the school once aid has been awarded. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Wisconsin - Madison. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Best Value Bioinformatics Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. This large school is located in Madison, Wisconsin, and it awarded 8 ’s bioinformatics degrees in 2020-2021.

Marquette University came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Bioinformatics Schools in the Great Lakes Region ranking. Marquette University is a private not-for-profit institution located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 6 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
