It’s not easy to decide which college to attend when there so many options available for veterans. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Biotech” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
In 2020-2021, 3,911 people earned their degree in biotechnology, making the major the 174th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, biotechnology graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $52,907 and had an average of $20,555 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Great Lakes region, there were 224 biotechnology graduates with average earnings and debt of $42,389 and $20,125 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Biotech” ranking, we looked at 13 colleges that offer a degree in biotechnology. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality biotechnology programs as well as strong veteran support.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the biotechnology program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. See our ranking methodology to learn more.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend University of Wisconsin - Madison. The school came in at #1 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Biotech. UW - Madison is a large school located in Madison, Wisconsin that handed out 26 ’s biotech degrees in 2020-2021.
