It’s not easy to decide which college to attend when there so many options available for veterans. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Insurance” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.

In 2020-2021, 1,809 people earned their degree in insurance, making the major the 201st most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, insurance graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $57,764 and had an average of $24,058 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southwest region, there were 118 insurance graduates with average earnings and debt of $54,961 and $18,961 respectively.

This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Insurance” ranking analyzed 5 colleges that offered a degree in insurance. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent insurance programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as veteran satisfaction, veteran affordability, and overall quality of the insurance program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend University of North Texas. The school came in at #1 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Insurance. Denton, Texas is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s insurance degrees to 57 students in 2020-2021.

UNT did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Of the 40,953 students enrolled at UNT, 2,038 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 1,138 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $9,999. During this same period, 0 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. UNT does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

Tempe, Arizona is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s insurance degrees to 11 students in 2020-2021.

Rio Salado College did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Among the 17,362 students enrolled at Rio Salado College, 335 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 206 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $630. Out of the 5 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Insurance that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Central Oklahoma landed the #3 spot on the list. University of Central Oklahoma is a fairly large school located in Edmond, Oklahoma that handed out 16 ’s insurance degrees in 2020-2021.

UCO did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Our most recent data shows that 934 of the 14,132 students enrolled at University of Central Oklahoma were GI Bill® students, of which 428 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $6,062. During this same period, 0 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. University of Central Oklahoma offers credit for military training for eligible students.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend University of Houston - Downtown. The school came in at #4 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Insurance. UH Downtown is a fairly large school located in Houston, Texas that handed out 15 ’s insurance degrees in 2020-2021.

As a testament to the quality of education offered at UH Downtown, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 20 of the 15,239 students enrolled at UH Downtown were GI Bill® students, of which 20 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $3,002. During this same period, 0 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Baylor University. It ranked #5 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Insurance list. Baylor University is a private not-for-profit institution located in Waco, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 16 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.

In addition to being on our southwest region vets studying insurance list, Baylor has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.According to our most recent data, Baylor supports 19,297 students, and 876 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 593 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $17,744. On top of their other funding sources, 263 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
