It’s not easy to decide which college to attend when there so many options available for students. College Factual was founded, in part, to help students make the decision as to what would be the best school for them. Our “Best Value CIS Schools in Maryland” ranking is part of that endeavor.
In 2020-2021, 88,434 computer information systems students received their degree, making the major the 9th most popular in the country. In 2019-2020, computer information systems graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $54,066 and had an average of $26,787 in loans still to pay off.
Across Maryland, there were 2,268 computer information systems graduates with average earnings and debt of $62,251 and $26,553 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value CIS Schools in Maryland” ranking, we looked at 16 colleges that offer a degree in computer information systems. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality computer information systems programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the computer information systems program at the school and the cost of the school after aid is awarded among other things. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Out of the 16 schools in the Best Value CIS Schools in Maryland that were part of this year’s ranking, Baltimore City Community College landed the #1 spot on the list. This small school is located in Baltimore, Maryland, and it awarded 50 ’s cis degrees in 2020-2021.

Out of the 16 schools in the Best Value CIS Schools in Maryland that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Maryland Global Campus landed the #2 spot on the list. Adelphi, Maryland is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s cis degrees to 549 students in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at UMGC, the school also landed the #3 spot in our “Best Computer Information Systems Schools in Maryland” ranking. The yearly cost to attend UMGC is $15,395 for maryland cis students.
The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only 4.4%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Maryland - College Park. It ranked #3 on our 2024 Best Value CIS Schools in Maryland list. UMCP is a large public school situated in College Park, Maryland. It awarded 115 ’s cis degrees in 2020-2021.
