Our “Best Value EE Schools for a Master’s” ranking is one tool we have developed to help in this regard.

In 2019-2020, 29,892 people earned their degree in electrical engineering, making the major the 26th most popular in the United States.

At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 9,330 electrical engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $56,398 and $43,194 respectively.

For this year’s “Best Value EE Schools for a Master’s” ranking, we looked at 194 colleges that offer a degree in electrical engineering. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great electrical engineering programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.

Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the electrical engineering program at the school and the cost of the school after aid is awarded among other things. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Out of the 194 schools in the Best Value EE Schools for a Master’s that were part of this year’s ranking, North Dakota State University - Main Campus landed the #1 spot on the list. This fairly large school is located in Fargo, North Dakota, and it awarded 10 masters’s EE degrees in 2019-2020.

Top 15% in overall quality

Out of the 194 schools in the Best Value EE Schools for a Master’s that were part of this year’s ranking, The University of Texas at Austin landed the #2 spot on the list. Austin, Texas is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s EE degrees to 139 students in 2019-2020.

On top of its placing in this ranking, UT Austin also did well on our “Best Electrical Engineering Master’s Degree Schools” list. It’s ranked in the top 15% of all schools on our “Best Electrical Engineering Master’s Degree Schools” list. #16 in overall quality

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Wisconsin - Madison. It ranked #3 on our 2022 Best Value EE Schools for a Master’s list. UW - Madison is located in Madison, Wisconsin and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 83 masters’s EE degrees to qualified students.

UW - Madison not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #16 on our “Best Electrical Engineering Master’s Degree Schools” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at University of Wisconsin - Madison are $25,523, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.
