General Engineering is the 78th most popular major in the country with 11,925 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, general engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $66,152 and had an average of $20,077 in loans still to pay off.
At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 2,826 general engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $56,398 and $43,194 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value Engineering Schools for a Master’s” ranking analyzed 91 colleges that offered a degree in general engineering. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great general engineering programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.

With a ranking of #7, Grand Valley State University did quite well on the 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Master’s list. Grand Valley State University is a large school located in Allendale, Michigan that handed out 34 masters’s engineering degrees in 2019-2020.

Rowan University landed the #10 spot on the 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Master’s ranking. Located in Glassboro, New Jersey, this fairly large public school awarded 41 degrees to qualified masters’s engineering students in 2019-2020.
Rowan did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #23 on our “Best General Engineering Master’s Degree Schools” list. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at Rowan University are $15,787.
With a ranking of #11, Lamar University did quite well on the 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Master’s list. Lamar University is a fairly large school located in Beaumont, Texas that handed out 73 masters’s engineering degrees in 2019-2020.

With a ranking of #12, The University of Tennessee - Chattanooga did quite well on the 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Master’s list.
