In 2020-2021, 40,481 people earned their degree in general English literature, making the major the 24th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, general English literature graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $29,881 and had an average of $23,769 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Plains States region, there were 2,181 general English literature graduates with average earnings and debt of $29,505 and $24,516 respectively.

For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Plains States Region for English” ranking, we looked at 41 colleges that offer a degree in general English literature. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great general English literature programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.

Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the general English literature program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.
