When pursuing a degree in today’s world, veterans have many different options to choose from. College Factual was founded, in part, to help students make the decision as to what would be the best school for them. Our “Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Sustainability” ranking is part of that endeavor.
In 2020-2021, 3,005 people earned their degree in sustainability studies, making the major the 248th most popular in the United States.
Across the New England region, there were 300 sustainability studies graduates with average earnings and debt of $0 and $0 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Sustainability” ranking, we looked at 6 colleges that offer a degree in sustainability studies. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great sustainability studies programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.

Top 6 Best Sustainability Studies Colleges for Veterans in the New England Region
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend University of New Hampshire - Main Campus. The school came in at #1 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Sustainability. Located in Durham, New Hampshire, this fairly large public school awarded 28 diplomas to qualified ’s sustainability students in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at UNH, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 37 of the 14,348 students enrolled at University of New Hampshire - Main Campus were GI Bill® students, of which 24 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $20,247. To help with additional expenses, 2 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%. Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 86%.

The school came in at #2 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Sustainability. Located in Amherst, Massachusetts, this large public school handed out 45 degrees to qualified ’s sustainability students in 2020-2021.
UMass Amherst also took the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Among the 31,642 students enrolled at University of Massachusetts Amherst, 477 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 252 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $8,295. To help with additional expenses, 21 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Tufts University. The school came in at #3 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Sustainability. Tufts is a fairly large private not-for-profit school situated in Medford, Massachusetts. It awarded 15 ’s sustainability degrees in 2020-2021.
Tufts not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Our most recent data shows that 1 of the 12,219 students enrolled at Tufts University were GI Bill® students, of which 0 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $0. On top of their other funding sources, 0 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program.
The impressive undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio of 10 to 1 means that students may have more opportunities to work more closely with their professors than they would at other schools. The low undergrad student loan default rate of [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. Out of the 6 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Sustainability that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Vermont landed the #4 spot on the list. Burlington, Vermont is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s sustainability degrees to 2 students in 2020-2021.
UVM did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Among the 13,292 students enrolled at UVM, 218 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 142 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $10,767. In addition to receiving other benefits, 19 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. UVM does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

Out of the 6 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Sustainability that were part of this year’s ranking, Worcester Polytechnic Institute landed the #5 spot on the list. Worcester, Massachusetts is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out ’s sustainability degrees to 5 students in 2020-2021.
WPI also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].According to our most recent data, Worcester Polytechnic Institute supports 6,920 students, and 77 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 47 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $15,341. During this same period, 7 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program.
