In 2019-2020, 20,841 people earned their degree in general chemistry, making the major the 38th most popular in the United States.
At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 2,145 general chemistry graduates with average earnings and debt of $56,398 and $43,194 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value Chemistry Schools for a Master’s” ranking, we looked at 179 colleges that offer a degree in general chemistry. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality general chemistry programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
