In 2020-2021, 554 people earned their degree in sacred music, making the major the 273rd most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, sacred music graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $30,993 and had an average of $27,000 in loans still to pay off.
For this year’s “Best Value Sacred Music Schools” ranking, we looked at 43 colleges that offer a degree in sacred music. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent sacred music programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the sacred music program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Moody Bible Institute. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Best Value Sacred Music Schools list. Moody Bible Institute is a small school located in Chicago, Illinois that handed out 17 ’s sacred music degrees in 2020-2021.

Out of the 43 schools in the Best Value Sacred Music Schools that were part of this year’s ranking, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary landed the #3 spot on the list.
