In 2019-2020, 3,716 people earned their degree in art history, making the major the 175th most popular in the United States.

At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 774 art history graduates with average earnings and debt of $56,398 and $43,194 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value Art History Schools for a Master’s” ranking looked at 87 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in art history. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality art history programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.

When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the art history program at the school and the cost to attend the school once aid has been awarded. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.
