How much of the cost at JPCatholic will the G.I. Bill® cover? Coverage is not unlimited and varies school to school, so the fine print is worth checking.
The table below compares the guaranteed Post-9/11 tuition benefit to the cost of attending JPCatholic. Living-expense and book benefits are addressed in their own sections below.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Veteran tuition & fees | $29,500 |
| Guaranteed Post-9/11 tuition benefit | $20,235 |
| Tuition out of pocket | $9,265 |
The Post-9/11 GI Bill® caps the annual tuition benefit (about $20,235), so the tuition above that is a gap veterans must cover through Yellow Ribbon, savings, or other aid at JPCatholic.
Federal data does not indicate that JPCatholic currently participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program. Contact the veteran services office to confirm whether any programs offer Yellow Ribbon matching.
Active-duty service members using DoD Tuition Assistance are capped at $250 per credit hour. The chart below shows whether the per-credit charge at JPCatholic falls under that cap.
| Residency | Per-credit charge | Below $250 cap? |
|---|---|---|
| In-state | $320 | |
| Out-of-state | $320 |
On top of tuition, the Post-9/11 GI Bill® provides a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) for the months you are in school. Here is how that benefit compares to the estimated cost of living at JPCatholic.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Estimated living expenses (room & board, academic year) | $15,099 |
| Post-9/11 monthly housing allowance (MHA) | $4,044/mo |
| Housing benefit (academic year, ~8 months) | $32,352 |
| Estimated surplus in your pocket | $17,253 |
For most full-time students the housing allowance covers the cost of living off campus, with money left over. The MHA is based on the school’s ZIP code and is paid at the full-time rate for resident students.
Eligible veterans receive up to $1,000 a year for books and supplies; JPCatholic estimates these costs at about $1,905, leaving about $905 out of pocket.
This is the real volume of GI Bill® and military tuition benefits paid out at JPCatholic.
Roughly 10 veterans received Post-9/11 GI Bill® tuition payments of $101,974.
| Benefit | Recipients | Total disbursed | Average / recipient |
|---|---|---|---|
| GI Bill® (all students) | 8 | $101,444 | $12,681 |
| GI Bill® — undergraduate | 8 | $101,444 | — |
GI Bill® dollars are paid on the veterans behalf, while DoD Tuition Assistance supports active-duty service members.
