When pursuing a degree in today’s world, students have many different options to choose from. Our “Best Value Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking is part of that endeavor.
Real Estate is the 155th most popular major in the country with 6,547 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, real estate graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $60,568 and had an average of $21,484 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southwest region, there were 934 real estate graduates with average earnings and debt of $54,664 and $19,534 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking, we looked at 13 colleges that offer a degree in real estate. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality real estate programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the real estate program at the school. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

University of North Texas ranked #7 on this year’s Best Value Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region list. Denton, Texas is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s real estate degrees to 43 students in 2020-2021.
UNT also took the #7 spot in our “Best Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking. It costs about $14,122 for Southwest Region Real Estate students per year to attend University of North Texas.

Texas A&M University - College Station landed the #8 spot on the 2024 Best Value Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. Located in College Station, Texas, this large public school awarded 58 degrees to qualified ’s real estate students in 2020-2021.
Texas A&M College Station also made our “Best Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region” list, coming in at #5. The yearly cost to attend Texas A&M College Station is $18,919 for Southwest Region Real Estate students.
Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 93%. The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is 2.2%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%.

The University of Texas at San Antonio came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. San Antonio, Texas is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s real estate degrees to 49 students in 2020-2021.
UTSA also made our “Best Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region” list, coming in at #9. The estimated yearly cost for The University of Texas at San Antonio is $10,549 for Southwest Region Real Estate students.
The low undergrad student loan default rate of 5.0% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.

The University of Texas at Arlington ranked #10 on this year’s Best Value Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region list. This large school is located in Arlington, Texas, and it awarded 17 ’s real estate degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at UT Arlington, the school also landed the #11 spot in our “Best Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking. The yearly cost to attend UT Arlington is $15,509 for Southwest Region Real Estate students.
The low undergrad student loan default rate of 4.6% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.

Baylor University did quite well in the 2024 Best Value Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region ranking, coming in at #11. Baylor is a private not-for-profit institution located in Waco, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 20 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at Baylor, the school also landed the #4 spot in our “Best Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking. The estimated yearly cost for Baylor is $37,309 for Southwest Region Real Estate students.
The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only 2.2%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%. With a freshman retention rate of 88%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students.

Texas Christian University landed the #12 spot on the 2024 Best Value Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. Texas Christian University is a fairly large school located in Fort Worth, Texas that handed out 57 ’s real estate degrees in 2020-2021.
TCU also made our “Best Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region” list, coming in at #1. The yearly cost to attend Texas Christian University is $39,942 for Southwest Region Real Estate students.
Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 91%. The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is 2.7%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%.

Southern Methodist University landed the #13 spot on the 2024 Best Value Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. Located in Dallas, Texas, this fairly large private not-for-profit school handed out 39 diplomas to qualified ’s real estate students in 2020-2021.
SMU also made our “Best Real Estate Schools in the Southwest Region” list, coming in at #2. The yearly cost to attend SMU is $38,208 for Southwest Region Real Estate students.
The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only 2.1%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%. With a freshman retention rate of 91%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students.
