Computer Science is the 19th most popular major in the country with 53,722 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, computer science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $66,561 and had an average of $23,565 in loans still to pay off.
At the associate degree level specifically, there were 3,419 computer science graduates with average earnings and debt of $33,082 and $17,678 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value CompSci Schools for an Associate” ranking, we looked at 79 colleges that offer a degree in computer science. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great computer science programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the computer science program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, this medium-sized public school handed out 29 diplomas to qualified associates’s compsci students in 2019-2020.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at North Hennepin Community College, the school also landed the #4 spot in our “Best Computer Science Associate Degree Schools” ranking. Out of the 79 schools in the Best Value CompSci Schools for an Associate that were part of this year’s ranking, Lake Area Technical Institute landed the #5 spot on the list. LATI is a public institution located in Watertown, South Dakota. The school has a small population, and it awarded 22 associates’s degrees in 2019-2020.

Northern Virginia Community College landed the #7 spot on the 2022 Best Value CompSci Schools for an Associate ranking. Northern Virginia Community College is a large school located in Annandale, Virginia that handed out 247 associates’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.

Norwalk Community College did quite well in the 2022 Best Value CompSci Schools for an Associate ranking, coming in at #10. NCC is located in Norwalk, Connecticut and, has a small student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 19 associates’s compsci degrees to qualified students.

Ivy Tech Community College came in at #16 in this year’s edition of the Best Value CompSci Schools for an Associate ranking. This large school is located in Indianapolis, Indiana, and it awarded 38 associates’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at Ivy Tech Community College, the school also landed the #25 spot in our “Best Computer Science Associate Degree Schools” ranking. The estimated yearly cost for Ivy Tech Community College is $6,919 for Associate Degree CompSci students.
Lone Star College System came in at #17 in this year’s edition of the Best Value CompSci Schools for an Associate ranking. Located in The Woodlands, Texas, this large public school awarded 18 degrees to qualified associates’s compsci students in 2019-2020.
North Harris Montgomery not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #18 on our “Best Computer Science Associate Degree Schools” list. The estimated yearly cost for Lone Star College System is $8,016 for Associate Degree CompSci students.
Union County College did quite well in the 2022 Best Value CompSci Schools for an Associate ranking, coming in at #18. Union County College is located in Cranford, New Jersey and, has a medium-sized student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 43 associates’s compsci degrees to qualified students.

Edmonds Community College came in at #19 in this year’s edition of the Best Value CompSci Schools for an Associate ranking. Located in Lynnwood, Washington, this medium-sized public school handed out 9 degrees to qualified associates’s compsci students in 2019-2020.

Weber State University landed the #22 spot on the 2022 Best Value CompSci Schools for an Associate ranking. Ogden, Utah is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out associates’s compsci degrees to 107 students in 2019-2020.

Onondaga Community College ranked #24 on this year’s Best Value CompSci Schools for an Associate list. Onondaga Community College is a medium-sized school located in Syracuse, New York that handed out 24 associates’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.
