In 2020-2021, 40,555 people earned their degree in information technology, making the major the 42nd most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, information technology graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $46,525 and had an average of $26,794 in loans still to pay off.
Across New Jersey, there were 228 information technology graduates with average earnings and debt of $45,280 and $24,477 respectively.
This year’s “Most Well Attended IT Major in New Jersey” ranking analyzed 18 colleges that offered a degree in information technology. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have one of the most popular information technology programs in the United States.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend New Jersey Institute of Technology. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Well Attended IT Major in New Jersey list. NJIT is a fairly large public school situated in Newark, New Jersey. It awarded 25 ’s IT degrees in 2020-2021.
Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 89%. The low undergrad student loan default rate of 4.0% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools.
