Writing Studies is the 81st most popular major in the country with 12,529 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, writing studies graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $32,208 and had an average of $24,626 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southeast region, there were 3,131 writing studies graduates with average earnings and debt of $31,720 and $25,773 respectively.

For this year’s “Best Value Writing Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking, we looked at 56 colleges that offer a degree in writing studies. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent writing studies programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

Out of the 56 schools in the Best Value Writing Schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Central Arkansas landed the #1 spot on the list. Conway, Arkansas is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s writing degrees to 27 students in 2020-2021.

UCA did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #21 on our “Best Writing Studies Schools in the Southeast Region” list. The yearly cost to attend UCA is $16,554 for Southeast Region Writing students.
