It’s not easy to decide which college to attend when there so many options available for students. Our mission at College Factual is to arm you with as much information as we can to help you make that decision. Our “Best Value ASL Schools” ranking is one tool we have developed to help in this regard.
American Sign Language is the 199th most popular major in the country with 2,724 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, American Sign Language graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $32,250 and had an average of $24,208 in loans still to pay off.
For this year’s “Best Value ASL Schools” ranking, we looked at 25 colleges that offer a degree in American Sign Language. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality American Sign Language programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the American Sign Language program at the school. See our ranking methodology to learn more.

Top 25 Best Value Colleges for American Sign Language
Out of the 25 schools in the Best Value ASL Schools that were part of this year’s ranking, Gallaudet University landed the #1 spot on the list. This small school is located in Washington, District of Columbia, and it awarded 77 ’s ASL degrees in 2020-2021.
Gallaudet not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #1 on our “Best American Sign Language Schools” list. The yearly cost to attend Gallaudet is $16,833 for asl students.
With a undergrad student-to-faculty ratio of 6 to 1, it’s easy to see that the school is committed to helping their undergraduates succeed.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Saint Paul College. The school came in at #2 for the Best Value ASL Schools. Located in Saint Paul, Minnesota, this medium-sized public school handed out 26 degrees to qualified ’s ASL students in 2020-2021.
Saint Paul College not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #20 on our “Best American Sign Language Schools” list. The estimated yearly cost for Saint Paul College is $11,507 for asl students.

Out of the 25 schools in the Best Value ASL Schools that were part of this year’s ranking, Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania landed the #3 spot on the list. Located in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, this medium-sized public school awarded 31 diplomas to qualified ’s ASL students in 2020-2021.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Kent State University at Kent. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Best Value ASL Schools list. Kent State is a public institution located in Kent, Ohio. The school has a large population, and it awarded 18 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.

St Catherine University landed the #8 spot on the 2023 Best Value ASL Schools ranking. This small school is located in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and it awarded 27 ’s ASL degrees in 2020-2021.

University of North Florida came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Best Value ASL Schools ranking. University of North Florida is a fairly large school located in Jacksonville, Florida that handed out 35 ’s ASL degrees in 2020-2021.

William Woods University ranked #10 on this year’s Best Value ASL Schools list. William Woods University is located in Fulton, Missouri and, has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 50 ’s ASL degrees to qualified students.

University of Houston ranked #12 on this year’s Best Value ASL Schools list. University of Houston is a public institution located in Houston, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 12 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at UH, the school also landed the #15 spot in our “Best American Sign Language Schools” ranking. It costs about $13,721 for asl students per year to attend University of Houston.
With a freshman retention rate of 86%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students. The low undergrad student loan default rate of 4.4% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. UVU not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #24 on our “Best American Sign Language Schools” list. The estimated yearly cost for UVU is $9,955 for asl students.
The low undergrad student loan default rate of 4.4% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.

University of New Mexico - Main Campus came in at #17 in this year’s edition of the Best Value ASL Schools ranking. Albuquerque, New Mexico is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s ASL degrees to 14 students in 2020-2021.

Georgia State University ranked #18 on this year’s Best Value ASL Schools list. Georgia State University is a large public school situated in Atlanta, Georgia. It awarded 11 ’s ASL degrees in 2020-2021.

University of Rochester also took the #2 spot in our “Best American Sign Language Schools” ranking. It costs about $31,340 for ASL students per year to attend University of Rochester.
The low undergrad student loan default rate of 1.0% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%. The impressive undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio of 10 to 1 means that students may have more opportunities to work more closely with their professors than they would at other schools.
