Across New Jersey, there were 741 history graduates with average earnings and debt of $35,162 and $25,084 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value History Schools in New Jersey” ranking, we looked at 15 colleges that offer a degree in history. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent history programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the history program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Out of the 15 schools in the Best Value History Schools in New Jersey that were part of this year’s ranking, Rutgers University - New Brunswick landed the #1 spot on the list. This large school is located in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and it awarded 118 ’s history degrees in 2020-2021.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Montclair State University. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Best Value History Schools in New Jersey list. Montclair State is a public institution located in Montclair, New Jersey. The school has a large population, and it awarded 66 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
