When it comes to choosing a college, veterans have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Wildlife” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
Wildlife Management is the 186th most popular major in the country with 2,449 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, wildlife management graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $26,447 and had an average of $23,043 in loans still to pay off.
Across the New England region, there were 149 wildlife management graduates with average earnings and debt of $26,287 and $26,777 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Wildlife” ranking, we looked at 4 colleges that offer a degree in wildlife management. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality wildlife management programs as well as strong veteran support.

Top 4 Best Wildlife Management Colleges for Veterans in the New England Region
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend University of Maine. The school came in at #1 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Wildlife. Located in Orono, Maine, this fairly large public school handed out 49 degrees to qualified ’s wildlife students in 2020-2021.
UMaine also took the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.According to our most recent data, UMaine supports 11,741 students, and 21 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 17 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $16,419. On top of their other funding sources, 0 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
The low undergrad student loan default rate of [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of New Hampshire - Main Campus. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Wildlife list. Durham, New Hampshire is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s wildlife degrees to 26 students in 2020-2021.
UNH did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Of the 14,348 students enrolled at University of New Hampshire - Main Campus, 37 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 24 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $20,247. During this same period, 2 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.

Located in Unity, Maine, this small private not-for-profit school awarded 40 degrees to qualified ’s wildlife students in 2020-2021.
Unity also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].According to our most recent data, Unity supports 1,429 students, and 38 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 24 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $8,720. In addition to receiving other benefits, 2 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Rhode Island. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Wildlife list. URI is a public institution located in Kingston, Rhode Island. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 34 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
URI not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Our most recent data shows that 381 of the 17,649 students enrolled at URI were GI Bill® students, of which 187 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $10,022. In addition to receiving other benefits, 0 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. URI does offer credit for military training for eligible students.
The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%. The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 85%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year.
