This year's Best Health & Physical Education Colleges for Veterans in the United States ranking looked at 392 colleges that offer a bachelor's in phys ed. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality health and physical education programs as well as strong veteran support.

To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as veteran satisfaction, veteran affordability, and overall quality of the health and physical education program at the school. See our ranking methodology to learn more.

University of Michigan - Ann Arbor comes in at #1 in this year's ranking. Located in the midsize city of Ann Arbor, U of Michigan is a public school with a very large student population. U of Michigan also made our Best Colleges for Health & Physical Education in the United States list, coming in at #1.

Of the 46,716 students enrolled at U of Michigan, 509 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 321 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for these recipients was $26,841. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.

University of Utah earned the #3 spot in our 2021 rankings. Located in the midsize city of Salt Lake City, U of U is a public school with a fairly large student population. U of U not only placed well in our veterans rankings. It is also #6 on our Best Colleges for Health & Physical Education in the United States list.

Our most recent data shows that 988 of the 33,023 students enrolled at U of U were GI Bill® students, of which 723 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for these recipients was $9,580. To help with additional expenses, 39 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. U of U does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

Southern Methodist University landed the #4 spot in our 2021 rankings for best value health and physical education schools. SMU is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the suburb of Dallas. SMU also took the #2 spot in our Best Colleges for Health & Physical Education in the United States rankings.

Of the 11,649 students enrolled at SMU, 330 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 258 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
