It’s not easy to decide which college to attend when there so many options available for veterans. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Meteorology” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
In 2020-2021, 1,140 people earned their degree in atmospheric sciences and meteorology, making the major the 227th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, atmospheric sciences and meteorology graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $35,965 and had an average of $23,086 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Great Lakes region, there were 174 atmospheric sciences and meteorology graduates with average earnings and debt of $33,400 and $24,250 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Meteorology” ranking, we looked at 11 colleges that offer a degree in atmospheric sciences and meteorology. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great atmospheric sciences and meteorology programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Meteorology list. U-M is a large public school situated in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It awarded 23 ’s meteorology degrees in 2020-2021.

Valparaiso University came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Meteorology ranking. Located in Valparaiso, Indiana, this small private not-for-profit school awarded 18 degrees to qualified ’s meteorology students in 2020-2021.
Valpo also took the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 39 of the 3,122 students enrolled at Valpo were GI Bill® students, of which 26 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
