With all of the options veterans have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. College Factual was founded, in part, to help students make the decision as to what would be the best school for them. Our “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Visual Arts” ranking is part of that endeavor.
In 2020-2021, 6,355 people earned their degree in general visual and performing arts, making the major the 116th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, general visual and performing arts graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $25,134 and had an average of $26,019 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 1,954 general visual and performing arts graduates with average earnings and debt of $26,128 and $26,925 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Visual Arts” ranking, we looked at 24 colleges that offer a degree in general visual and performing arts. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent general visual and performing arts programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the general visual and performing arts program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.
Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Visual Arts
The colleges and universities below are the best for southeast region vets studying visual arts.
Out of the 24 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Visual Arts that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Florida landed the #1 spot on the list. UF is a large public school situated in Gainesville, Florida. It awarded 60 ’s visual arts degrees in 2020-2021.
UF also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Our most recent data shows that 1 of the 53,372 students enrolled at UF were GI Bill® students, of which 0 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $0. On top of their other funding sources, 0 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.

University of Southern Mississippi ranked #8 on this year’s Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Visual Arts list. University of Southern Mississippi is a fairly large public school situated in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. It awarded 22 ’s visual arts degrees in 2020-2021.
Southern Miss not only placed well in this ranking. As a testament to the quality of education offered at UT, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Of the 9,605 students enrolled at UT, 526 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data.
