Our Veterans Report on WIU:
An increased number of veterans enrolling at a particular school means that college faculty are more adept at accommodating and supporting those with previous military experience. Based on VA records, there are 54 GI Bill® students at WIU. As the school’s total enrollment is 4,939, about 1.1% of those enrolled are using the GI Bill® to help pay for their education. By comparison, the Student Veterans of America reports that three to four percent of college students nationwide are veterans.
This number includes all chapters of the GI Bill®, such as Post-9/11, the Montgomery GI Bill®, the Reserve Education Assistance Program, and Veteran Readiness and Employment. Active-duty military using Tuition Assistance are excluded, so the actual military population may be bigger. Veteran students account for 0.4% of all students at WIU, per U.S. Department of Education data.

**Western Illinois University does have a student veterans group.**There is a dedicated veteran and military student point of contact on campus. Visit veteran services.
If you have specialized military training, WIU may take that into consideration and grant college credit for it. Contact the school to find out more about the particulars. Earning credit for what you already know can save you time and money toward a degree. Check with WIU about credit for life experience, CLEP and similar exams, or other prior learning beyond military training.
