With all of the options students have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. College Factual has developed its “Best Value CIS Schools for a Bachelor’s” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.

In 2019-2020, 81,384 computer information systems students received their degree, making the major the 10th most popular in the country. In 2017-2018, computer information systems graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $51,664 and had an average of $26,071 in loans still to pay off.

At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 39,202 computer information systems graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,303 and $24,501 respectively.

For this year’s “Best Value CIS Schools for a Bachelor’s” ranking, we looked at 509 colleges that offer a degree in computer information systems. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent computer information systems programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the computer information systems program at the school and the cost to attend the school once aid has been awarded. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Out of the 509 schools in the Best Value CIS Schools for a Bachelor’s that were part of this year’s ranking, Western Governors University landed the #1 spot on the list. WGU is a large private not-for-profit school situated in Salt Lake City, Utah. It awarded 660 bachelors’s CIS degrees in 2019-2020.

As a testament to the quality of education it offers, WGU is also in the top of our “Best Computer Information Systems Bachelor’s Degree Schools” ranking. It’s in the top 15% of all schools reviewed in that analysis. The yearly cost to attend Western Governors University is $9,805 for Bachelor’s Degree CIS students.

Located in Provo, Utah, this large private not-for-profit school handed out 48 diplomas to qualified bachelors’s CIS students in 2019-2020.

BYU also claimed a top spot on our “Best Computer Information Systems Bachelor’s Degree Schools” list. It’s in the top 20% of all schools in this category. The yearly cost to attend BYU is $13,322 for Bachelor’s Degree CIS students.

The low student loan default rate of 1.7% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%. Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 92%.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Brigham Young University - Idaho. It ranked #3 on our 2022 Best Value CIS Schools for a Bachelor’s list. This large school is located in Rexburg, Idaho, and it awarded 158 bachelors’s CIS degrees in 2019-2020.
