When it comes to choosing a college, veterans have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Programming” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.

In 2020-2021, 11,939 people earned their degree in computer programming, making the major the 108th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, computer programming graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $45,629 and had an average of $27,450 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Great Lakes region, there were 2,052 computer programming graduates with average earnings and debt of $45,164 and $25,809 respectively.

For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Programming” ranking, we looked at 34 colleges that offer a degree in computer programming. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great computer programming programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.

To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as veteran satisfaction, veteran affordability, and overall quality of the computer programming program at the school. See our ranking methodology to learn more.

UChicago is a fairly large school located in Chicago, Illinois that handed out 57 ’s programming degrees in 2020-2021.

In addition to being on our great lakes region vets studying programming list, UChicago has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 241 of the 17,834 students enrolled at University of Chicago were GI Bill® students, of which 113 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
