When it comes to choosing a college, students have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. One of our goals at College Factual is to give you as much information as we can - such as our “Best Value Information Science Schools” ranking - to help you make that decision.
In 2020-2021, 18,325 people earned their degree in general information science, making the major the 47th most popular in the United States.
For this year’s “Best Value Information Science Schools” ranking, we looked at 198 colleges that offer a degree in general information science. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent general information science programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the general information science program at the school and the cost of the school after aid is awarded among other things. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Bunker Hill Community College. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Best Value Information Science Schools list. BHCC is located in Boston, Massachusetts and, has a medium-sized student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 24 ’s information science degrees to qualified students.

Out of the 198 schools in the Best Value Information Science Schools that were part of this year’s ranking, Ivy Tech Community College landed the #2 spot on the list. Ivy Tech Community College is a large school located in Indianapolis, Indiana that handed out 384 ’s information science degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education it offers, Ivy Tech Community College is also in the top of our “Best General Information Science Schools” ranking. You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend University of Maryland Global Campus. The school came in at #3 for the Best Value Information Science Schools. University of Maryland Global Campus is a public institution located in Adelphi, Maryland. The school has a large population, and it awarded 2,322 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
UMGC did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #21 on our “Best General Information Science Schools” list. It costs about $15,395 for information science students per year to attend UMGC.
The low undergrad student loan default rate of 4.4% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.

In addition to being on this list, UD is in the top on our “Best General Information Science Schools” list. It’s ranked in the top 15% of all schools on our “Best General Information Science Schools” list. The yearly cost to attend UD is $18,967 for Information Science students.
