In 2020-2021, 36,792 people earned their degree in special education, making the major the 29th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, special education graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $45,679 and had an average of $24,977 in loans still to pay off.

Across California, there were 3,154 special education graduates with average earnings and debt of $59,751 and $17,326 respectively.

For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in California for Special Ed” ranking, we looked at 26 colleges that offer a degree in special education. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great special education programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.

When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the special education program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran satisfaction. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.
