2022 Best Value Associate Degree Colleges for General Engineering Technology

In 2019-2020, 4,195 people earned their degree in general engineering technology, making the major the 155th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, general engineering technology graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $49,903 and had an average of $20,609 in loans still to pay off.
At the associate degree level specifically, there were 1,292 general engineering technology graduates with average earnings and debt of $33,082 and $17,678 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value Engineering Tech Schools for an Associate” ranking, we looked at 45 colleges that offer a degree in general engineering technology. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great general engineering technology programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the general engineering technology program at the school. See our ranking methodology to learn more.

Out of the 45 schools in the Best Value Engineering Tech Schools for an Associate that were part of this year’s ranking, Brigham Young University - Idaho landed the #1 spot on the list. Located in Rexburg, Idaho, this large private not-for-profit school awarded 4 degrees to qualified associates’s engineering tech students in 2019-2020.
BYU - I also took the #6 spot in our “Best General Engineering Technology Associate Degree Schools” ranking. The yearly cost to attend BYU - I is $7,167 for Associate Degree Engineering Tech students.
The student loan default rate at the school is 3.2%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%.
