In 2020-2021, 28,844 people earned their degree in electrical engineering, making the major the 39th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, electrical engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $74,380 and had an average of $24,114 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southeast region, there were 5,288 electrical engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $68,403 and $24,939 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value EE Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking analyzed 59 colleges that offered a degree in electrical engineering. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent electrical engineering programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the electrical engineering program at the school and the cost to attend the school once aid has been awarded. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

FIU did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #16 on our “Best Electrical Engineering Schools in the Southeast Region” list. It costs about $5,298 for southeast region ee students per year to attend FIU.

With a freshman retention rate of 91%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students. The low undergrad student loan default rate of 4.4% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. UF also made our “Best Electrical Engineering Schools in the Southeast Region” list, coming in at #6. The estimated yearly cost for University of Florida is $5,135 for Southeast Region EE students.

Out of the 59 schools in the Best Value EE Schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Central Florida landed the #4 spot on the list. Orlando, Florida is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s EE degrees to 238 students in 2020-2021.
