In 2020-2021, 322,592 nursing students received their degree, making the major the 3rd most popular in the country. In 2019-2020, nursing graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $70,916 and had an average of $25,426 in loans still to pay off.
Across Rhode Island, there were 1,091 nursing graduates with average earnings and debt of $76,319 and $27,009 respectively.

Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent nursing programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Rhode Island. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Rhode Island for Nursing for a Doctorate list. URI is a fairly large school located in Kingston, Rhode Island that handed out 3 doctorate’s nursing degrees in 2020-2021.
URI also took the #2 spot in our “Best Nursing Doctor’s Degree Schools in Rhode Island” ranking.Among the 17,649 students enrolled at URI, 381 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 187 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $10,022. On top of their other funding sources, 0 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. URI does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

Salve Regina is a small private not-for-profit school situated in Newport, Rhode Island. It awarded 8 doctorate’s nursing degrees in 2020-2021.
