In 2020-2021, 1,234 people earned their degree in gerontology, making the major the 256th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, gerontology graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $37,380 and had an average of $26,139 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 174 gerontology graduates with average earnings and debt of $29,532 and $31,000 respectively.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of South Florida - Main Campus. It ranked #5 on our 2023 Most Well Attended Gerontology Major in the Southeast Region list. USF Tampa is a large public school situated in Tampa, Florida. It awarded 13 ’s gerontology degrees in 2020-2021.

The low undergrad student loan default rate of 3.1% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.
