A large number of veterans attending a college means the college and faculty are more used to supporting and accommodating the needs of those with prior military experience. According to the VA, there are 237 GI Bill® students at HVCC. With a total enrollment of 6,359, nearly 3.7% of students are using the GI Bill® to help pay for their education. For perspective, about three to four percent of college students in the U.S. are veterans, according to the Student Veterans of America.
This number includes all chapters of the GI Bill®, such as Post-9/11, the Montgomery GI Bill®, the Reserve Education Assistance Program, and Veteran Readiness and Employment. It leaves out active-duty personnel using Tuition Assistance, meaning the total military presence may be greater. Veteran students account for 0.8% of all students at HVCC, according to U.S. Department of Education figures.
