Our “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Journalism for a Bachelor’s” ranking is part of that endeavor.

Journalism is the 69th most popular major in the country with 13,552 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, journalism graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $32,953 and had an average of $23,734 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southwest region, there were 1,758 journalism graduates with average earnings and debt of $32,691 and $23,007 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 1,577 journalism graduates with average earnings and debt of $40,112 and $26,227 respectively.

This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Journalism for a Bachelor’s” ranking analyzed 20 colleges that offered a degree in journalism. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality journalism programs as well as strong veteran support.

To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as veteran satisfaction, veteran affordability, and overall quality of the journalism program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

University of Oklahoma also made our “Best Journalism Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” list, coming in at #2.Of the 27,772 students enrolled at University of Oklahoma, 12 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. ASU - Tempe is a large school located in Tempe, Arizona that handed out 191 bachelors’s journalism degrees in 2020-2021.

ASU - Tempe also took the #5 spot in our “Best Journalism Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking.Of the 74,795 students enrolled at ASU - Tempe, 7,566 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. UCO is located in Edmond, Oklahoma and, has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 60 bachelors’s journalism degrees to qualified students.
