This year's Best Information Science Colleges for Non-Traditional Students in the Southeast Region ranking looked at 11 colleges that offer a bachelor's in is. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent information science programs, but they also offer a lot of support to non-traditional students.
When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the information science program at the school, affordability, and presence of non-traditional students. See our ranking methodology to learn more.

James Madison University tops the 2021 list of our schools in the Southeast Region that are best for non-traditional information science students. Located in the city of Harrisonburg, JMU is a public school with a very large student population. In addition to being on our best for non-traditional students list, JMU has also earned the #2 rank in our Best Colleges for Information Science in the Southeast Region ranking.
The school has a low student loan default rate of 0.8%. Approximately 6,740 students take at least one class online at JMU. There are roughly 2,328 part time students in attendance at JMU.

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill comes in at #2 in this year's ranking. Located in the city of Chapel Hill, UNC Chapel Hill is a public college with a fairly large student population. UNC Chapel Hill also made our Best Colleges for Information Science in the Southeast Region list, coming in at #1.
The school has a low student loan default rate of 0.9%. Approximately 6,990 students take at least one class online at UNC Chapel Hill. About 5,151 of the students at UNC Chapel Hill are attending part time.

Our rankings recognize Virginia Commonwealth University as the #3 school in this year's rankings. VCU is a fairly large public school located in the midsize city of Richmond. VCU did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #3 on our Best Colleges for Information Science in the Southeast Region list.
The student loan default rate at VCU is lower than is typical, just 0.9% of students default in three years. There are approximately 19,039 students at VCU that take at least one class online. 5,055 of VCU students are attending part time.

Northwestern State University of Louisiana earned the #4 spot in our 2021 rankings. Located in the town of Natchitoches, NSU is a public school with a medium-sized student population.

Georgia Southern University comes in at #5 in this year's ranking. GaSou is a very large public school located in the town of Statesboro. As a testament to the quality of education offered at GaSou, the school also landed the #5 rank in our Best Colleges for Information Science in the Southeast Region ranking.

Radford University comes in at #6 in this year's ranking. Located in the small suburb of Radford, Radford is a public school with a moderately-sized student population. Radford not only placed well in our non-traditional rankings. It is also #7 on our Best Colleges for Information Science in the Southeast Region list.
The student loan default rate at Radford is lower than is typical, just 1.8% of students default in three years. Approximately 4,017 students take at least one class online at Radford. There are roughly 2,252 part time students in attendance at Radford.

The #7 spot in this year's ranking belongs to Murray State University. Murray State is a medium-sized public school located in the remote town of Murray. Murray State also took the #4 spot in our Best Colleges for Information Science in the Southeast Region rankings.
The school has a low student loan default rate of 2.2%. Approximately 2,506 students take at least one class online at Murray State. About 2,929 of the students at Murray State are attending part time.

Northern Kentucky University comes in at #8 in this year's ranking. NKU is a fairly large public school located in the large suburb of Highland Heights.

University of South Alabama landed the #10 spot in our 2021 best information science schools for non-traditional students. USA is a fairly large public school located in the midsize city of Mobile.
