With all of the options students have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. College Factual was founded, in part, to help students make the decision as to what would be the best school for them. Our “Best Value Housing Schools” ranking is part of that endeavor.

In 2020-2021, 302 people earned their degree in housing, making the major the 316th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, housing graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $45,369 and had an average of $23,582 in loans still to pay off.

For this year’s “Best Value Housing Schools” ranking, we looked at 8 colleges that offer a degree in housing. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great housing programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.

To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the housing program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Out of the 8 schools in the Best Value Housing Schools that were part of this year’s ranking, Brigham Young University - Provo landed the #1 spot on the list. BYU is located in Provo, Utah and, has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 13 ’s housing degrees to qualified students.

As a testament to the quality of education offered at BYU, the school also landed the #4 spot in our “Best Housing Schools” ranking. The estimated yearly cost for Brigham Young University - Provo is $13,474 for housing students.

With a freshman retention rate of 92%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students. The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is 1.3%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Texas Tech University. The school came in at #2 for the Best Value Housing Schools. Lubbock, Texas is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s housing degrees to 12 students in 2020-2021.

Texas Tech not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #3 on our “Best Housing Schools” list. The estimated yearly cost for Texas Tech University is $16,194 for Housing students.

Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 87%. The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only 4.5%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.

Out of the 8 schools in the Best Value Housing Schools that were part of this year’s ranking, Missouri State University - Springfield landed the #3 spot on the list. This large school is located in Springfield, Missouri, and it awarded 28 ’s housing degrees in 2020-2021.

Missouri State not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #5 on our “Best Housing Schools” list. The estimated yearly cost for Missouri State is $16,718 for housing students.

The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only 3.9%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Georgia. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Best Value Housing Schools list. This large school is located in Athens, Georgia, and it awarded 73 ’s housing degrees in 2020-2021.

UGA did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #1 on our “Best Housing Schools” list. The yearly cost to attend UGA is $14,257 for Housing students.

The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 94%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year. The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is 1.9%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%.

Out of the 8 schools in the Best Value Housing Schools that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Missouri - Columbia landed the #5 spot on the list. University of Missouri - Columbia is a large public school situated in Columbia, Missouri. It awarded 38 ’s housing degrees in 2020-2021.

Mizzou not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #2 on our “Best Housing Schools” list. It costs about $16,559 for housing students per year to attend University of Missouri - Columbia.

Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 89%. The low undergrad student loan default rate of 2.5% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.

University of Akron Main Campus did quite well in the 2023 Best Value Housing Schools ranking, coming in at #6. University of Akron Main Campus is a fairly large school located in Akron, Ohio that handed out 5 ’s housing degrees in 2020-2021.

In addition to being on our housing students list, University of Akron Main Campus has also earned the #7 rank in our “Best Housing Schools” ranking. It costs about $17,945 for housing students per year to attend University of Akron Main Campus.

Ohio University - Athens Campus ranked #7 on this year’s Best Value Housing Schools list. Located in Athens, Ohio, this large public school awarded 10 degrees to qualified ’s housing students in 2020-2021.

OHIO Athens also made our “Best Housing Schools” list, coming in at #6. The estimated yearly cost for OHIO Athens is $23,831 for housing students.

New York City College of Technology came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Housing Schools ranking. New York City College of Technology is a public institution located in Brooklyn, New York. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 14 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.

As a testament to the quality of education offered at City Tech, the school also landed the #8 spot in our “Best Housing Schools” ranking. The estimated yearly cost for City Tech is $4,120 for housing students.
