In 2019-2020, health sciences and services graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $35,887 and had an average of $24,736 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southeast region, there were 9,114 health sciences and services graduates with average earnings and debt of $33,535 and $28,949 respectively.

For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Health Science for a Master’s” ranking, we looked at 11 colleges that offer a degree in health sciences and services. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent health sciences and services programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Alabama at Birmingham. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Health Science for a Master’s list. UAB is located in Birmingham, Alabama and, has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 17 masters’s health science degrees to qualified students.

UAB not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #5 on our “Best Health Sciences & Services Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list.Of the 22,563 students enrolled at UAB, 1,194 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 508 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $7,983. On top of their other funding sources, 15 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. UAB does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

The low undergrad student loan default rate of [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%. Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 86%.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Central Florida. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Health Science for a Master’s list. Orlando, Florida is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s health science degrees to 121 students in 2020-2021.

UCF also made our “Best Health Sciences & Services Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list, coming in at #1.Of the 71,881 students enrolled at UCF, 2,263 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 1,216 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $4,995. To help with additional expenses, 8 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.

The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%. The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 92%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year.

NUS Florida is a large school located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida that handed out 33 masters’s health science degrees in 2020-2021.

NUS Florida also made our “Best Health Sciences & Services Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list, coming in at #3.According to our most recent data, Nova Southeastern University supports 20,888 students, and 522 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 335 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $12,213. To help with additional expenses, 70 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Fort Myers, Florida is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s health science degrees to 6 students in 2020-2021.

FGCU did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #6 on our “Best Health Sciences & Services Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list.Our most recent data shows that 362 of the 15,358 students enrolled at Florida Gulf Coast University were GI Bill® students, of which 232 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. Georgia College is a medium-sized public school situated in Milledgeville, Georgia. It awarded 23 masters’s health science degrees in 2020-2021.
