In 2020-2021, 11,415 people earned their degree in anthropology, making the major the 77th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, anthropology graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $26,616 and had an average of $23,038 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Middle Atlantic region, there were 1,570 anthropology graduates with average earnings and debt of $26,815 and $23,570 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value Anthropology Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region” ranking looked at 83 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in anthropology. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality anthropology programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.

To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the anthropology program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.
