Students have lots of options to chooose from today when trying to decide which college to attend. College Factual has developed its “Most Well Attended Design Major in Michigan” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
Design & Applied Arts is the 36th most popular major in the country with 36,301 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, design and applied arts graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $31,426 and had an average of $25,481 in loans still to pay off.
Across Michigan, there were 1,055 design and applied arts graduates with average earnings and debt of $32,886 and $24,874 respectively.
This year’s “Most Well Attended Design Major in Michigan” ranking looked at 41 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in design and applied arts. To top this list, a school must have a successful design and applied arts program that graduates more students in the field than other colleges that offer the same major.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Ferris State University. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Well Attended Design Major in Michigan list. Ferris is a fairly large public school situated in Big Rapids, Michigan. It awarded 112 ’s design degrees in 2020-2021.
Out of the 41 schools in the Most Well Attended Design Major in Michigan that were part of this year’s ranking, Michigan State University landed the #3 spot on the list. This large school is located in East Lansing, Michigan, and it awarded 97 ’s design degrees in 2020-2021.
The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is 2.6%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%. With a freshman retention rate of 91%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Macomb Community College. The school came in at #4 for the Most Well Attended Design Major in Michigan. Warren, Michigan is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s design degrees to 73 students in 2020-2021.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Central Michigan University. It ranked #5 on our 2023 Most Well Attended Design Major in Michigan list. Mount Pleasant, Michigan is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s design degrees to 69 students in 2020-2021.
The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only 4.8%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.
Western Michigan University landed the #6 spot on the 2023 Most Well Attended Design Major in Michigan ranking. Western Michigan University is a fairly large school located in Kalamazoo, Michigan that handed out 59 ’s design degrees in 2020-2021.
