Computer Programming is the 108th most popular major in the country with 11,939 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, computer programming graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $45,629 and had an average of $27,450 in loans still to pay off.
At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 2,330 computer programming graduates with average earnings and debt of $39,682 and $26,217 respectively.

To top this list, a school must have a successful computer programming program that graduates more students in the field than other colleges that offer the same major.

Out of the 88 schools in the Most Well Attended Programming Major for a Bachelor’s that were part of this year’s ranking, Western Governors University landed the #1 spot on the list. WGU is a large school located in Salt Lake City, Utah that handed out 633 bachelors’s programming degrees in 2020-2021.

Chicago, Illinois is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out bachelors’s programming degrees to 154 students in 2020-2021.
The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only 3.7%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Fort Hays State University. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Well Attended Programming Major for a Bachelor’s list. Located in Hays, Kansas, this fairly large public school handed out 154 diplomas to qualified bachelors’s programming students in 2020-2021.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Rowan University. The school came in at #5 for the Most Well Attended Programming Major for a Bachelor’s. This fairly large school is located in Glassboro, New Jersey, and it awarded 139 bachelors’s programming degrees in 2020-2021.

Bellevue University did quite well in the 2023 Most Well Attended Programming Major for a Bachelor’s ranking, coming in at #7.
