Special Education is the 29th most popular major in the country with 36,792 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, special education graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $45,679 and had an average of $24,977 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southwest region, there were 5,829 special education graduates with average earnings and debt of $45,069 and $23,433 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 855 special education graduates with average earnings and debt of $40,112 and $26,227 respectively.

This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Special Ed for a Bachelor’s” ranking looked at 26 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in special education. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent special education programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
