Teaching English or French is the 140th most popular major in the country with 5,791 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, teaching English or French graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $46,917 and had an average of $20,920 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Far Western US region, there were 631 teaching English or French graduates with average earnings and debt of $32,769 and $23,200 respectively.

This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Far Western US Region for English or French” ranking analyzed 23 colleges that offered a degree in teaching English or French. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent teaching English or French programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey did quite well in the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Far Western US Region for English or French ranking, coming in at #22. Middlebury Institute is a small school located in Monterey, California that handed out 12 ’s English or French degrees in 2020-2021.
